bowhunting product reviews

Below are some of my favorite bowhunting products. I receive samples from various manufacturers and put them to the test in my bowhunting adventures. I'll review new products on a regular basis, so please check back for new information in the coming months. Links are provided to companies that have web site.

Scent*Lok: This is one of the most innovative clothing products to hit the bowhunting market in years. I have always felt that the best scent is no scent, which never seemed possible, but now it is. Since I have started wearing Scent*Lok clothing, I have taken a number of nice animals with my bow that came from down wind, including a 315" 6x6 and a 330" 7x7 bull elk in Colorado. The new Scent*Lok comes in camo and with my Mossy Oak breakup I feel I become invisible to both an animal's eyes and nose.

Easton Technical Products: Easton is, of course, the #1 arrow manufacturer and the only arrows I would recommend. My choice for hunting is the A.C.C. 371, but they have a giant selection for every shooting style, weight and budget. Check out their new Easton Select Archers Club at 1-800-421-2689.

Reflex: I'm happy to now be shooting the new Reflex Xtreme- a brand new design for serious bowhunter. A forged and then machined speed bow, the Xtreme is the result of extensive engineering and testing. The goal was to make the perfect hunting bow. The result? A great-looking light weight speed-demon at a highly affordable price.

New Archery Products: The thunderhead people are definately my choice for broadheads. After taking an average of 80 bowhunters per year for the past 10 years, I've seen just about every broadhaed on the market and for the money, thunderhead, razorback or spit fire broadheads are the sharpest, toughest and most accurate heads on the market.

Mossy Oak: Mossy Oak is my choice for camo in the west. I like the shadow grass pattern, but for most hunting conditions, I love the new break up pattern. It has just the right mix of light, open and dark shadows to blend into most backgrounds. They also have a great snow camo.

Bullseye Cresting: I have always liked a nice crested arrow, but since I started shooting carbon shafts, I have found it necessary to shoot crested arrows to be able to see the shaft in flight, especially on video. If you wish to see the nicest cresting in the business, contact Bullseye Cresting at pmason@etex.net. They also do the best southwestern art on trophy skulls...check this out before you throw your horns in the shed.

Golden Key: This company is well-known for their arrow rests and also make my favorite hunting release. For practice, I use the Answer, which is a caliper type release that will not allow you to punch the trigger...you have to squeeze to make it go off. For hunting I use the Top Gun, which is my all time favorite. It is built just like the Answer without the training aid.
